On the afternoon of Sept. 18th, 2016, the Department of Mechanical Engineering held the first postgraduate-instructor meeting, with Professor Rong Yiming as the host. 5 professors, 11 postgraduates and many a undergraduates that are interested in the Department of MEE attended the meeting.
Firstly, Professor Rong warmly welcomed the teachers and students and expressed his deep acknowledgment to their understanding and support. As the head of the Department of MEE, Professor Rong devoted all his time to the research , teaching and management of the Department. He briefly introduced the development plan, the research teams, the current research programs of the department of MEE and showed a grand blueprint of the Mechanical Engineering, which, to a certain extent, greatly encouraged the students to make a long-term study plan and build a promising mechanical dream.

Prof. Rong’s introduction stirred the postgraduates up to express their dreams, expectations, research experiences, research interests, and the directions that they planned to choose as the focus of their future research practice. They hoped to achieve much and harvest fruitful results in MEE and SUSTech. As the Principal Chen Shiyi said, “Choosing Southern University of Science and Technology at his infant period, proves your courage, vision and independence of the spirit of exploration.” We are confident enough to believe that the life and research of our postgraduates in the following two years will be brilliant and they can achieve great success through the advanced, innovative platforms and hard working.

Then, the team leaders of the five research directions (Wang Haijiang -Energy Engineering, Zhu Qiang-Modeling Manufacturing, Rong Yiming-Intelligent Manufacturing, Precision Machining, Fu Chenglong-Robotics and Automation) elaborated on their scientific research experiences, current projects, future projects in droves. They shared their rich research experience in several countries in a quite humorous tone with the students. They suggested that the postgraduates should not only aim for a good job but also set up a higher goal for their career in their graduate study.

Professors’ introduction further enlarged the students’ scientific vision of the mechanical field and greatly helped them to acquire a deep understanding of the different research directions, which enables all the students to construct an integrated frame of mechanical engineering.

In a warm discussion, the postgraduates –instructors meeting came to an end. All the students seemed to have been ready to realize their dreams in the Department of Mechanical Engineering of SUSTech. Best wishes to all these dream hunters!
