The SUSTech Institute of Robotics and the Department of Mechanical and Energy Engineering held the Summit, with the guide of the Shenzhen Science and Technology Innovation Committee. Academician Xiong Youlun of the Chinese Academy of Sciences and Academician Dean Xu Zhenghe of the School of Engineering joined experts and scholars from around the world.
The forum discussed issues like the development status and trends at the cutting edge of global robotics, in order to promote the integration of cutting edge of robotics and regional economic development. Director of the SUSTech Institute of Robotics Chen I-Ming hosted the summit with Executive Director Rong Yiming.
Academician Xu Zhenghe said that SUSTech had accelerated its development into an international high-level research university and actively responded to the national robot development strategic plan. It had implemented the overall deployment of Shenzhen's industrial robot strategy development and will strive to promote the Robotics Research Institute for Shenzhen, which would make positive contributions to the city's intelligent manufacturing sector.
Professor Chen I-Ming comprehensively briefed the audience about the SUSTech Institute of Robotics. He covered the goals, organization, foundation, research foci and achievements of the Institute since its establishment in September 2017. It was pointed out that the Institute had closely followed SUSTech’s development and was focused on building a robotics R&D base that meets the needs of China as well as the strategic emerging industries of the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macau Greater Bay Area.
The Advisory Committee of the SUSTech Institute of Robotics was officially established on December 12, 2018. The Appointment Ceremony was held at the Summit. The Advisory Committee is made up of more than 20 members, who are academicians, professors, and entrepreneurs at home and abroad.
